The Project
South Lanarkshire Council required safe, permanent access to the rooftop of one of its office buildings to support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
Regular rooftop works included the inspection and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) panels and air-conditioning plant, together with rooflight inspection and gutter cleaning.
The Requirements
Working at height specialist PTSG Access & Safety was appointed to provide a fixed access solution for maintenance personnel.
In addition to providing safe access to the roof, the ladder arrangement needed to address an additional fall hazard adjacent to the base of the ladder.
The Solution
PTSG specified an Ascent™ Fixed Access Ladder incorporating half-hoops at the lower section of the ladder. The additional guarding was introduced to provide protection from the adjacent fall hazard when accessing or leaving the ladder.
The ladder configuration was developed with consideration of the additional protective measures for fixed ladders and safety cages set out within BS EN ISO 14122-4:2016.
The Ascent™ system can be configured to suit individual buildings and site conditions, with additional safety features incorporated where required to address specific access and fall protection requirements.
The ladder was installed by PTSG in accordance with the comprehensive installation guidance provided by Safety Fabrications.
Designed for Safe Rooftop Access
The Ascent™ Fixed Access Ladder system is designed and tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 14122-4:2016 and manufactured at Safety Fabrications’ Sheffield facility under controlled factory production procedures.
Its adaptable design enables ladder configurations and additional safety features to be tailored to site-specific conditions, providing a robust permanent access solution for inspection and maintenance activities.
