Sheffield Central Library

Sheffield Central Library

The Ascent™ Up & Over Step Unit was specified on this famous Sheffield landmark building to provide maintenance workers with safe access around the rooftop.

The Client:

Sheffield Central Library is the city’s largest library and also houses the Graves Art Gallery.

The building was constructed in 1929 in the Art Deco style and is located at a prominent location within the city.

The Challenge:

Maintenance personnel required safe passage between the various roof areas of the library.

The Solution:

The supplied Ascent™ Up & Over Step Unit was galvanised and powder-coated black to match the existing roof steelwork.

Open grillage of the step over unit created a free draining, anti-slip walking surface.

With a guardrail supplied on both sides, this protected users falling from the step over unit.

Adjustable support feet on the step over unit allowed for final on-site levelling and a non-penetrative support system for the stair, ensuring the waterproof integrity of the roof surface was not compromised.

The step over unit was delivered flat packed with comprehensive installation instructions.

Ascent™ Up & Over Step Units are designed in line with BS EN ISO 14122-1 & 3:2016 and manufactured in our Sheffield facility in compliance with BS EN 1090 CE manufacturing standards, ensuring the product’s quality and safety.
