The Ascent™ Aluminium Walkway was specified to create safe access to the rooftops of the vast aircraft hangers at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.
The Client:
Driving up the A1 to the north of Leeds, it’s impossible not to notice RAF Leeming to the east of the main north/south trunk road.
RAF Leeming provides support for UK and overseas expeditionary air operations, and numerous air squadrons are based there.
The Challenge:
The aircraft hangers, which are visible from the A1 despite their attractive green covering, are massive structures that require regular planned periodic maintenance (PPM) to their rooftops.
Eurosafe Solutions was appointed by the RAF to establish a safe access strategy for their roofs.
The Solution:
As part of this strategy, Eurosafe advised the installation of the Ascent™ Aluminium Walkway complete with guardrails.
The walkway created a level, free-draining, anti-slip walkway surface for maintenance personnel, and provided levelled to the falls of the roof where it traverses the roof slope.
Steps were installed along the walkway’s entire length where it ascends and descends on the roof slope.
The walkway was attached to the roof sheet using proprietary self-drill fixing screws complete with self-sealing weather-tight washer.
The arrangement allowed the walkway to be affixed to the building without the need for large-scale penetrations and sub-sequent weather proofing.
The aluminium walkway was installed by Eurosafe personnel in accordance with the provided comprehensive install guidelines.
Ascent™ Aluminium Walkways are designed and tested in compliance with EN 516;2006 and BS EN 14122- 2 &3 :2016 and manufactured at our Sheffield premises to CE / UKCA standards in accordance with BS EN 1090 manufacturing procedures.
Manufactured from 6082-T6 structural grade aluminium, Ascent™ Aluminium Walkways are 100% recyclable, protecting both the maintenance personnel who use the walkway now and future generations who may wish to re-purpose it at the end of its working life.
