Futamura

The Client:

Futamura is the world’s largest producer of renewable cellulose films, with their main UK manufacturing facility located in Wigton, Cumbria, between the Solway Firth and the Lake District.

The Challenge:

Futamura had been working on upgrading the facility they purchased in 2016.

As part of its on-site improvements, they worked with Eurosafe Solutions to develop a safe maintenance access strategy.

They identified that access to the rooftops for air-quality monitoring, roof extract fan maintenance, and ongoing roof maintenance is required on a regular basis for planned preventative maintenance.

The Solution:

Eurosafe specified the Ascent™ Aluminium Roof Aalkway and roof step system to create a level, free-draining, anti-slip walkway surface for maintenance personnel.

Where it traverses the roof slope and around the roof vents, the walkway provided a level to the roof falls.

Steps were installed along the walkway’s entire length where it ascends and descends on the roof slope.

The walkway was attached to the roof sheet with bespoke self-drill fixing screws and a weather-tight washer.

The arrangement enabled the walkway to be attached to the building without the requirement for large-scale penetrations and subsequent weather proofing.

The aluminium roof walkway was installed by Eurosafe personnel in accordance with the provided comprehensive install guidelines.

Ascent™ Aluminium Roof Walkways are designed and tested in accordance with EN 516;2006 and BS EN 14122- 2 &3 :2016 and manufactured at our Sheffield premises to CE / UKCA standards in accordance with BS EN 1090 manufacturing procedures.

Manufactured from 6082-T6 structural grade aluminium, Ascent™ Aluminium Roof Walkways are 100% recyclable, protecting both the maintenance personnel who use the walkway now and future generations who may wish to re-purpose it at the end of its working life.
