Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport

The Ascent™ Up & Over Step Unit was requested at Edinburgh Airport to provide safe maintenance access across one of the main terminal building’s rooftops.

The Client:

Edinburgh airport is Scotland’s busiest, with 14.7 million passengers arriving and departing every year.

The Challenge:

Maintenance routes have always been present across the roof of the main terminal building.

However, a change in usage of some of the terminal’s retail units forced the installation of additional piping across the roof.

This pipework interfered with the access route, prompting the requirement of a step over unit to provide a safe means of access.

The Solution:

The open grillage of the Ascent™ Up & Over Step Unit created a free draining, anti-slip walking surface.

The provision of a guardrail on both sides protected users from falling from the step over unit.

Adjustable support feet on the step over unit enabled for final on-site levelling and a non-penetrative support system for the stair, ensuring the waterproof integrity of the roof surface was not affected.

The step over unit was delivered flat packed with comprehensive installation instructions.

Ascent™ Up & Over Step Units are designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 14122-1 & 3:2016 and manufactured in our Sheffield facility in compliance with BS EN 1090 CE manufacturing standards, ensuring the product’s quality and safety.
