The Project
As part of a comprehensive programme of roof access and safety improvements, a major UK DIY retailer worked with specialist safety contractors to improve safe access across its nationwide store portfolio.
Ascent™ Fixed Access Ladders were specified at locations where permanent ladder access to rooftop areas was required.
The Requirements
The new access arrangements needed to provide a safe and permanent means of reaching roof areas while also addressing the risk of unauthorised access.
To improve security, the Ascent™ ladders were specified with an anti-climb bottom hoop cover and associated hoop guard, creating a physical deterrent to anyone attempting to access the roof without authorisation.
The Solution
The Ascent™ anti-climb bottom hoop cover features a hinged design with a lockable mechanism. Authorised users can unlock and open the cover before ascending the ladder, leaving it in the open position while work is being undertaken on the roof.
Once roof works are complete, the cover can be closed and secured, creating an anti-climb enclosure around the lower section of the ladder hoops and helping to deter unauthorised access.
The Ascent™ Fixed Access Ladder system can be configured to suit a wide range of buildings and site-specific access requirements. Where required, additional features such as rest platforms and security measures can be incorporated into the system design.
The ladders were installed by the appointed height safety contractor in accordance with comprehensive installation guidance provided by Safety Fabrications.
Designed and Manufactured for Safe Access
Ascent™ Fixed Access Ladders are designed and tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 14122-4:2016 and manufactured at Safety Fabrications’ Sheffield facility under controlled manufacturing procedures.
The modular system enables ladder configurations and associated safety features to be tailored to the building, access height and specific site conditions, providing a robust permanent access solution for commercial and industrial properties.
