Carnegie Library

Carnegie Library

The Client:

A Carnegie library is one that was built with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist.

Between 1883 and 1929, 2,509 Carnegie libraries were created.

There are 660 of these in the UK and Ireland.

The Challenge:

Premier Technical Services Group (PTSG) approached Safety Fabrications to provide safe access to the rooftop of the Carnegie library as part of their maintenance access scheme.

The Solution:

The Ascent™ Aluminium Fixed Access Ladder was supplied with hoops for fall protection and a platform at the head to allow access onto the upper roof over the adjacent parapet wall.

The ladder was affixed to the brickwork background via a series of support brackets, with the majority of the ladders load being transferred to the ground through the ladder stringers.

The fixed access ladder was supplied in palletised form to PTSG who installed it following the comprehensive ladder installer instructions.

Ascent™ Aluminium Fixed Access Ladders are designed in accordance with BS 14122-4:2016 and manufactured at our Sheffield premises to CE / UKCA standards in accordance with BS EN 1090 manufacturing procedures.
