Memorable Ladder Stunts from Around the World
Ladders are hugely practical items that can be used to carry out a number of jobs safely at height. Yet, they have also been used in a variety of exciting ways by different performers.
The following are some instances of people carrying out crazy stunts by using ladders in ways that they simply weren’t designed to be used for. Thankfully, none of them ended in tragedy. These are however examples of dangerous stunts that you definitely shouldn’t try at home.
Uzeyer Novruzov Fell off a Ladder on America’s Got Talent
Season 10 of America’s Got Talent introduced extravagant Russian-born Uzeyer Novruzov to the world. The stuntman admitted that he could have died doing this trick that went wrong in 2015. Novruzov started off by climbing up a wobbly, free-standing ladder with no visible signs of support.
He was steadying himself at the top of the ladder and trying to put a hoop over his foot when he lost his balance. The audience gasped as he crashed to the ground, with the heavy ladder smashing down beside him. Fortunately, he emerged unscathed if somewhat embarrassed at this failure on live TV.
Uzeyer was later seen again in America’s Got Talent: The Champions, carrying out the exact same stunt. The acrobat said that this was a “chance to redeem myself”, even though he had initially decided to not touch the ladder again after the initial fall.
A Romanian TV Presenter Falls off a Ladder
Another person who suffered the embarrassment of falling off a ladder on live television was Romanian presenter Mihai Morar. It happened on the Bad But Good show, as the host attempted to show how a local singer had become famous doing this stunt.
Morar climbed a ladder that wasn’t being supported by a wall. Instead, his female assistants were holding it up. As he got higher, the women struggled to support his weight, leading to the ladder eventually crashing down on top of one of them as the host fell to the stage.
The presenter jumped straight up after the fall and said that he had been hit in the head. He was taken to a local hospital but neither he nor his assistants were hurt during the bizarre spectacle. The next time, we expect them to use safety ladders for this kind of feature.
Harry Houdini Was Tied to a Ladder
The most famous escapologist of all time was renowned for the hugely creative stunts that he carried out. You may have once seen a photo of him tied to a chair, a wheel or some other object.
Among his most interesting attempts at grabbing the public’s attention was the time that he was tied to a ladder. The full photo of this escape reveal that the ropes tying his wrists to the ladder also ran to his neck.
Yet, Houdini said that spectacular stunts like these – which looked impossible to escape from to the audience- were often the easiest to complete. He even went so far as to call the ladder escape a “slow but sure proposition”.
