Made in Britain Where Quality Counts

Made in Britain Where Quality Counts

22nd August 2018

Here at Safety Fabrications we’re proud of the fact that our products are built in Britain where we have some of the best health and safety in the workplace records in the whole world.  The UK Health and Safety at Work Regulations have been designed to ensure that Britain is one of the safest countries in which to work and this is particularly essential in the construction industry.  The construction sector, by its very nature, is one of the most dangerous industries in which to work but, due to stringent health and safety legislation, this has been steadily improving year on year since the introduction of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HSWA).

Research conducted by the Office for National Statistics, the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics, clearly demonstrate that fatal injuries in the workplace have fallen by a massive 86% since the introduction of the HSWA, while non-fatal injuries have fallen by 77%.  Those figures are pretty mind-blowing – the improvement is an amazing achievement.

The UK Health and Safety Executive (which is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare) is constantly updating legislation in order to ensure that this health and safety at work record continues to improve, and investigates industrial accidents in order to do this.  Part of the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) remit is to oversee the legislation that relates to the design and supply of products used in the UK and this includes products and equipment that are used in the construction industry.

All products and equipment used in the construction sector in the UK has to meet very stringent requirements as set out in the appropriate European Union Directives.  These requirement cover both the manufacture of the equipment and the materials from which the equipment is made.  This means that any equipment or products manufactures in the UK are of the very highest standards available.  They have to be fit for purpose and robust enough to withstand the environments in which they are used.  The HSE requires that all products manufactured here in the UK must be:

  • Designed and constructed to be safe, meeting the essential health and safety requirements listed in the Regulations.
  • Bears a CE mark
  • Is supplied with instructions in English
  • Has a Declaration of Conformity

These regulations apply to manufacturers and to importers of non-CE-market equipment from outside the EU and to those who design and construct machinery for their own use.  The Regulations are enforced by the HSE and local trading standards which means that any equipment made here in the UK is guaranteed to be of the best possible quality, ensuring that it performs correctly, is durable and safe to use.

Made in Britain is a phrase that is accepted the world over as an indication of quality and reliability.  British manufacturers use it with pride on their products, and rightly so.  This is why, here at Safety Fabrications, we take pride in the fact that we’re offering construction industry access solutions that are British made, offering our customers the peace of mind they need to ensure that their access equipment conforms to the highest standards in the world.
